Luxembourg Institute of Health – LIH

The Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) is a biomedical research organisation with a strong translational focus. It houses the Competence Centre for Methodology and Statistics, headed by Dr. Michel Vaillant, which is entirely devoted to provision of methodological and statistical advice for research projects and healthcare issues. The LIH developed the statistical plan for analysis of data from the moxidectin single dose phase 3 study in collaboration with WHO/TDR. LIH has considerable experience in the management of European grants.

 
 
 

Medicines Development for Global Health – MDGH

Medicines Development for Global Health (MDGH) is an independent biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of affordable medicines and vaccines for the people who need them most. MDGH is a not-for-profit company that uses all funds in excess of running costs to develop medicines and vaccines that address important unmet medical needs but may have limited commercial opportunities. The MDGH team brings a depth of expertise from within the pharmaceutical and global health sectors in project management, pharmaceutical development, clinical studies and regulatory agency interactions and submissions. MDGH has experience in these areas specific to the development of moxidectin. In 2018, MDGH successfully registered moxidectin with the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of individuals ≥12 year with onchocerciasis.

 
 
 

University of Health and Allied Sciences – UHAS

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Research Centre in which Dr. Nicholas Opoku works was formerly the Onchocerciasis Chemotherapy Research Centre, the site of the moxidectin single dose phase 2 pharmacokinetic, efficacy and safety study, and a site in the moxidectin phase 3 study. The organisation has significant clinical trial capacity and world leading expertise in conducting trials with moxidectin, including studies requiring pharmacokinetic sampling and monitoring for moxidectin-related adverse events. This experience and infrastructure is vital to WP4. UHAS Research Centre also has extensive links to the communities from where participants will be recruited, which will contribute to community mobilisation and recruitment.

 
 
 

Universitätsklinikum Bonn  – UKB

Prof. Achim Hörauf is Director of the Institute of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology (IMMIP) at the University Hospital Bonn associated with the University of Bonn. He and his team including Dr. Kenneth Pfarr and Dr. Ute Klarmann-Schulz, have been working for years on research for new treatments for onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis, including both non-clinical and clinical work.

 
 
 

University of Strathclyde – STRATH

Hannah Batchelor is a Professor at the University of Strathclyde Institute Of Pharmacy And Biomedical Sciences. Her experience within the pharmaceutical industry and academia have resulted in extensive knowledge in pharmaceutical sciences, including optimizing drug formulations, creating paediatric formulations and assessing their acceptability to children.

 
 
 

Centre for Research on Filariasis and other Tropical Diseases – CRFilMT

Prof. Kamgno is Director of the Filariasis and other Tropical Diseases Research Center (CRFilMT), a not-for-profit Cameroonian association. CRFilMT was created in 2005 with the main objectives to provide expertise for the surveillance and management of post-ivermectin severe and serious Adverse Events in Loa loa co-endemic areas but now addresses broader operational and research objectives in the framework of the control of filariasis and other tropical diseases endemic in Cameroon and Africa. The CRFilMT mission is to support the Ministry of Public Health in its efforts to control endemic diseases, by offering them technical assistance on how to elaborate and conduct control actions on the basis of research findings. Furthermore, the CRFilMT contributes to the understanding of the epidemiology of endemic diseases in Cameroon as well as in the elaboration of means and strategies for control. CRFilMT is located in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
